Jim's Kids History
Jim's Kids started back in the early 80's with a small birthday gathering for Jim Bullins & Cindy Staley,
a friend with cerebral palsy. Cindy is now known as Jim's first Kid. The small parties, in their yard, over
the next 3 years continued to grow, and so did Jim Bullins and his wife Mary's involvement with more and
more kids with disabilities. And as word of their love soon spread into the local community, more and more
people volunteered to help. Although they use the name Kids their love and devotion applies to Adults as
well as children. There is no age limit for Jim's Kids and no type of government funding involved. Just
real love and caring for others. The only fee charged for becoming a member of Jim's Kids, is a hug and a
smile for Jim Bullins. Jim's Brother, Junior Wesley, died at an early age from Polio. Financially unable
to help him, Jim knew that this was a way to remember Junior & help others in need.
Jim Bullins, was an over the road truck driver for some 30 years. He is married to Mary Bullins & has 4
children. Many trucker magazines heard about the Jim's Kids organization and began to inquire about this
trucker that was trying to make a difference in the lives of so many Kids across America. Jim's Kids
became well known across the trucker community because of the interviews done by; Truckers News of
Northern California; Movin Out Magazine of Slippery Rock, PA; Roadstar Magazine of Irvine, CA; and
RPM Magazine of Cumming, GA. The articles of these magazines led to Jim's Kids being featured in
People Magazine (Dec. 95) & The Readers Digest (Aug. 96), that led to Jim's Kids being featured on
Tom Brokaws NBC Nightly News. The Bullins family has always been grateful to the truckers & the trucking
companies as well as truck stops across America for their support in helping Jim's Kids. Jim always makes
sure the truckers are involved with two parties held each year.
Jim's Kids Christmas Parties are held on the second weekend of December and a Christmas in July party &
singing held the second weekend in July. At these parties we have had Kids come as far away as New Mexico,
Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida & South Carolina. We of course, have many Kids
from North Carolina from the beaches to the mountains, along with 2 special guest from the North Pole.
On the Friday Night of the Christmas in July Party, we have a Southern Gospel Concert. We feature a very
special group known across America & Canada, The Anchormen of Goldsboro, NC. We thank them for being
caring and always taking time out to say hello, to our special Kids. And at each party, it would not be
complete without Joey & Vicki Holiday of Nashville, TN. The Holidays travel all across America singing
country & gospel music at truck stops and truck shows. Joey always promotes Jim's Kids with the song he
had written called Jim's Kids Christmas in July, available at most Truck Stops in America. We always
like to add comedy to the party by having Snuffy & Granny, a husband and wife, owner & operator also
known as Ron & Diane Smith. Along with having such great entertainers at the parties, we also have a
great meal. Thanks to local business & volunteers, along with the members and friends of Liberty Road
Baptist Church, we have a great Buffet with ham & turkey and all the trimmings along with the best homemade
desserts you could ever find. This meal is at no cost to the Kid's, and their family, and a thank-you the
volunteers for all they do.
But the greatest event at these parties is after the meal & entertainment. It is when Jim & Mary can
surprise a Kid with a much needed handicap device that Medicare would not pay for and their family could
not financially afford. From toddler size walkers to modern wheelchairs, and even a wheelchair that can
go on the sand at the beach. The recipients & their families are wonderfully overwhelmed.
So anytime you are in the Central Heart of North Carolina, Asheboro, Randleman or Sophia, we would like
to invite you to be a special guest of Jim's Kids. At our last Christmas Party (1999) we had 60 Jim's Kids
and over 600 family members & volunteers to participate. The parties take place at the Gym of Liberty Road
Baptist Church located on W.O.W. Road between Randleman and Asheboro. We at Jim's Kids have no one on a
payroll and we depend entirely on donations from caring people just like you. To our surprise, no one in
any other state has anything like Jim's Kids, and that makes us and many of our local sponsors proud to
call Randolph County, NC'.Home of Jim's Kids.
